Material Culture Redux.

I found this on an anti-mason site, who was pointing this video out as an appeasement to Freemasonry to get discovered. But as a Freemason, I’ve listened to them for a while now…

It seems the band Mastodon has a Masonic fetish.

Maybe one of the band member’s dads was a Shriner and had some really cool fez’s laying around. Or perhaps one of them may be a Shriner. Either way, have a look for yourself.

Freemasonry is more in the material culture than it thinks.

The lead singer, a fellow named Brent Hinds, said in an interview of the video with Dry Ink magazine,

“…that was a good time, it was crazy. We shot it at the Star Bar in Atlanta. We’re friends with the owners, so they let us do whatever we wanted with the place. We performed in front of a bunch of drunken clowns and we were dressed as Shriner’s. There was a bearded lady and a cowboy clown. I wear a fez regularly anyway. I’m a big fan of Shriner’s. We just told our friends and fans to come down to the bar dressed as clowns. It was fun.”

In the same anti-mason’s blog, he points to another video from Mastodon that uses compass pretty liberally, but I didn’t see the same Masonic connection that Post Modern did.

Have a look for yourself here. Interesting stuff.

  1. OFGS! Yet another Konspiracy K00k out to prove that the Masons are involved with the Illuminati and other secret societies intent on controlling the world.

You know, at some point I’m going to stop arguing with them and start asking “Well? So what?” I mean, they all have these kooky ideas about how we’re doing it (and never mind the irony of how these guys in the safety of their homes always seem to know more about this fraternity than those of us who are actually members of the fraternity), but I never hear about what evil things are supposed to happen after we gain control. If the guys in my lodge are any indication, we’re going to have a lot more picnics and dinners. Doesn’t sound so bad to me.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get my black helicopter back to the Denver Airport for it’s 666-hour tuneup.

  2. Pretty cool band. I wonder if the fact that MASON is embedded in the word MAStodON is meaningful?
