I’ve been trying to find out what I can about a new show airing on FOX on August 21st but like all new shows, it’s pretty tight lipped. Most likely, as with all of these “secret exploration” type shows, this one will fade into obscurity (a’la Millenium, The Inside, and X-files just to name a few), and from some of the reviews on it, it will be pretty quick fade. I have high hopes for this one though and look forward to seeing it suceed.

The FOX describes the show this way:

“Sara Collins, the beautiful young wife of prominent Georgia Senator Jeffrey Collins, has inexplicably vanished. As the search for Sara unravels one of the nation’s most prominent families, it also exposes evidence that could rock the foundations of American society. In Vanished, nothing is as it seems. Everyone is a suspect. Everyone has a secret. And no one is safe.”

But why, you may ask, is a new FOX show being written about on a Masonic Blog? From some of the sneaks and clips, it seems that Freemasonry is featured as a potential “villain” and/or a “secret order” that the president is inducted into. Somehow, the fraternity is a factor in the show and is being woven into its mythology. But honestly, from digging around, I can’t find any good spoilers that go into the Freemasonry angle.

This is a clip, off of YouTube, that shows some of the “Masonic” aspects in the show.

From the Masonic perspective, check it out. You never know what effect it will have publicly for the Fraternity, if it has any at all. My guess is it will roll off, just like the “DaVinci Code” did. But you can’t pass up a few minutes of the fraternity on Prime Time television.

If you find yourself watching T.V., look out for the clips on FOX, usually coupled with the returning show “Prison Break”.

Sara Collins is gone. But before the FBI can solve the mystery of where she is, they first need to figure out who she really is.

SARA (Joanne Kelly, “Whiskey Echo”) is the beautiful young wife of prominent Georgia Senator JEFFREY COLLINS (John Allen Nelson, “24”), and she has gone missing. Through the eyes of Senior FBI Agent GRAHAM KELTON (Gale Harold, “Queer as Folk,” “Martha Behind Bars”), ambitious reporter JUDY NASH (Rebecca Gayheart, “Nip/Tuck,” “Harvard Man”) and the distraught members of the Collins family, viewers will journey inside a sensational, mysterious national soap opera.

And there is much more going on here than it seems on the surface.

Kelton, working with Agent LIN MEI (Ming-Na, “ER”), uncovers enigmatic clues that suggest Sara’s disappearance may be part of a large, sinister conspiracy. Closer to home, Jeffrey and Sara’s dutiful son MAX (John Patrick Amedori, “Nip/Tuck,” “House”) is keeping secrets of his own, while his rebellious sister MARCY (Margarita Levieva) is on the verge of eloping with her boyfriend BEN (Chris Egan, “Empire”), whose motives are questionable. All the while, Judy and her young cameraman/boyfriend ADAM PUTNAM (Robert Hoffman, “She’s the Man”) attempt to capture every twist and turn of the biggest story in their careers.

The search for Sara not only exposes one of the nation’s most prominent families, but it also uncovers evidence that could rock the very foundation of American society. In VANISHED, nothing is as it seems. Everyone is a suspect. Everyone has a secret. And no one is safe.

Created by Josh Berman (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”) and directed by executive producer Mimi Leder (“The Peacemaker,” “Deep Impact”), VANISHED combines the investigative twists and turns of “CSI,” the nonstop pace and tension of FOX’s “24” and the scope of “The Da Vinci Code.” This intriguing new series will reveal new clues each week. But as the characters get closer to the truth, they will become targets themselves.

Paul Redford (“The Unit,” “The West Wing”) serves as executive producer. VANISHED is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

  1. You know what they say..there’s no such thing as bad press.

Sheesh, just type the word ‘Freemason’ into Google and the average person would be so confused they would have no idea what to think.

And, recently, what with a large number of Freemason blogs (all allegedly written by honest to goodness Freemasons) it only gets that much more confusing.

Hey, if it gets one person to actually ask a Freemason about the craft it can’t be all that bad.

  2. I think that the confusion can work both ways. It will turn some people off, but others will be attracted by the conflicting messages and start asking just to get it worked out. In general, that should be a good thing, but I’m afraid that it also tends to draw the conspiracy nuts.

    The Tao of Masonry

  3. We’ve had our ups and downs, but as a whole I think it comes in cycles, so we’re probably getting ready to hit the “up” cycle in interest and membership.

  4. I watched the first vanished show. I didn’t see anything that resembled freemasonry in the first episode.

But during the commercial breaks when the name of the show “Vanished” was flashed all of the letters other than V and n dissapeared and the V and n moved together to make the square and compass. The n is drawn to look more like an upside down V in the type set used for the title of the show.

    Just my observations.

  5. Not sure if anyone saw the Sep. 4 Episode. The senator sits in an elevator when something appears on an LCD screen in front of him – It’s the image of a lit airport runway moving away from him (hence in a pyramid shape) with a large V draw accross it. I’m not a mason, but I am familiar enough in the lore that this is your symbol. Not sure why the image in the show also depicted a 9 superimposed over the V/inverted V. My 2 cents.
